Surveys & Research Analyst

Overall Objective:
To provide support to the HRG Research Manager, Business Information Services (BIS) in two primary areas of HRG activity, within a remit that extends across all HRG international entities and client/prospect relationships. These are:

  1. Performance & attitudinal surveys: development and management of surveys – externally on behalf of HRG clients, prospects and suppliers and internally, working with HRG senior managers and key functions
  2. Corporate research & analysis: undertaking regular and ad hoc desk research projects as briefed by HRG senior and functional managers. The research will relate to information and events surrounding HRG Clients and Prospects, with HRG Sales and Client Management as your primary customers driving the requirement.

The Business Analyst is also required to provide limited support to other HRG internal functions as specified under ‘supplementary responsibilities’. The role requires contact at all levels within HRG and may include interaction with external bodies and their representatives such as suppliers, consultants and clients/prospects.

Impact of the role:
The role impacts the end-to-end sales and client management process in all markets in which HRG operates, either through wholly-owned operations or contracted Partners. The primary engagement is with HRG’s Corporate Travel Management business, although there will also be internally-commissioned work on behalf of other HRG business streams: Expense Management, Consulting, Events & Meetings Management, Sports.

The role requires direct and frequent interaction with UK and International Sales and Business Managers and with all HRG central functions. In all cases there will be an expectation that information sourced, collated and analysed will be well-researched, accurate, authoritative, well-presented and delivered in a timely manner. Although not high profile in terms of direct Client or Industry involvement, the role carries a high level of responsibility for maintaining the reputation of HRG in the quality of work it delivers.

Key Areas of Activity:

1. Corporate Surveys

Supporting the HRG Research Manager (BIS) in:

  • Setting and maintaining standards for creating, delivering and analysing results from surveys conducted by HRG on behalf of its clients globally, both directly by the BIS function and indirectly by other HRG entities (or Partners representing HRG). Management of standards to include:
        o Adherence to prevailing data protection legislation
        o Maintenance of HRG corporate branding guidelines
        o Consistent application of HRG survey templates
        o For custom work, adherence to client branding and other instructions
  • Creation and delivery of regular and ad hoc surveys on behalf of internal HRG functions; key customer groups are Marketing, Technology, HR and Client Management
  • The primary requirement is build and delivery of online surveys using specialist software and supported by electronic analysis tools, although the role will need to accommodate other media and methods where required
  • Applying an agreed HRG charging structure for “standard” or “custom” survey design and delivery for which there is a revenue-generating opportunity – either direct with the external customer or via an HRG intermediary.
  • Managing external service relationships with software providers, translation agencies and other third-parties on which the HRG survey service has dependencies
  • Use of programming skills and tools to further develop HRG survey delivery and analysis capabilities
  • Keeping abreast of global best practice in survey delivery; changes in legislation affecting survey delivery in any/all HRG markets; technical or product innovations that may enhance the HRG proposition in survey management
  • Contributing to the evolution of, conduct of and online reporting of all RED Co-ordinators’ interaction with RED and Non RED Suppliers. (Red Co-ordinators are required to file online a personal report monthly of this interaction.) Assist in collating and reporting the data overall and the preparation of the ‘RED Report’. Ability to use Excel and survey software is crucial to this and related activities.
  • The Business Analyst will be expected to contribute ideas for new survey types or methods that will enhance HRG’s service reputation or increase revenue

2. Corporate Research & Analysis

Supporting the HRG Research Manager (BIS) in:

  • Supplying updates and analysis to senior management on Industry issues and client developments
  • Assisting HRG managers with researched material to support Industry presentations and public speaking events
  • Research to position and support HRG client forums and corporate events
  • Preparing specific client/prospect briefing notes in preparation for bids or key meetings
  • Continuous review of European public sector bid opportunities/announcements and alert to Sales and Client Management in HOE countries
  • Feeding Business Managers and Sales Managers with ‘actionable’ news/published information on managed clients and key prospects: immediate response (as it happens) and narrow brief (focused on strategic corporate changes, HRG opportunities and risks)
  • Assist in preparation of monthly Communiqué content (HRG Client online newsletter (and for related e-communications documents like MustRead) covering all of HRG’s RED Preferred Suppliers (this includes circa 70 different companies embracing Airlines, Hotels, Car Hire Companies, Rail Companies and developments at Airports and in Technology that impact our clients.)
  • Provide alerts to colleagues on strikes, disruption to services and related events impacting HRG clients and prospects
  • Fulfilling ad hoc research assignments as specified by the Research Manager (BIS)


Supplementary responsibilities

  • Corporate reporting: monthly collation and preparation of selected Sales & Client Management performance reports on behalf of the HRG Board, in support of the HRG Corporate Database & Reporting team. This will be limited to:
            o Hogg Robinson owned Entities (HoE) Funnel Report
            o Sales Board Report
            o UK Board Report
  • Web-cast logistics: ad hoc requirement for administrative and technical support to internal/external web-cast events
    Qualifications & Experience Required:
  • Educated to degree level
  • Strong research and analytical skills (previous research experience is preferred)
  • Proficient written and oral communication
  • Proficiency in all MS Office software with advanced skills in MS Excel (required) + strong experience of using MS Access (preferred)
  • Visual Basic programming skills is preferred – willingness to learn and use Visual Basic is essential
  • Experience of online information sources will be an asset.
