| HRG unveils 2010 six month hotel survey

The international hotel industry has shown signs of recovery in the first half of 2010 according to the bi-annual hotel survey conducted by Hogg Robinson Group (HRG), the world class corporate travel services company. Although the survey reveals a fragmented global picture, the hotel market in Europe and the US appears to be stabilising, as rates are either flat or only marginally down. In addition 12 of the 50 cities surveyed achieved a year on year rate increase when measured in pound sterling. In contrast though, the Middle East region recorded the highest rate decrease, with double digit falls in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman.

The Hogg Robinson Group (HRG) hotel survey shows that room rates have started to increase since the global economy emerged from recession in 2009. Average room rates across the twelve key global focus cities surveyed grew by around 5% over the second quarter of 2010. The global economy shows signs of a multi-speed recovery with emerging economies such as India and China experiencing higher levels of economic growth than the western economies of the US, Europe and the United Kingdom. The difference in the pace of economic growth is reflected in the contrasting rates of room rate growth observed in world regions. Over the period from January to June, Asia posted a 3.1% year-on-year growth in rates compared to flat growth in the US and a 2.7% decrease in Europe.

Under the terms of the new relationship, HRG will offer its clients TripCase, a mobile itinerary management application. The pioneering solution includes full integration of HRG client travel plans into the TripCase application. The product will also allow HRG to communicate with travellers post-booking and in-transit via the TripCase messaging platform.
