The benefits of utilising staff outsourced by travel management companies (TMCs) have been laid bare by global financial services company Prudential plc. The company, which works with a full-time outsourced travel manager supplied by corporate travel services company Hogg Robinson Group (HRG), says that welcoming a TMC account team member to its offices has resulted in increased strategic travel programme activity, quicker online booking adoption rates and cost savings, as well as improved trust and understanding between the companies.
Having identified the need within some of its largest clients, HRG began offering an outsourced travel manager service two years ago and now has over 25 outsourced travel managers working alongside clients in the UK as part of in-house procurement teams. HRG works with individual companies to determine the most suitable TMC services, including whether there would be a benefit of outsourced staff.
Susan Lancaster, HRG’s Director of International Business Group said: “By working in Prudential's offices, alongside their procurement team, HRG has been able to completely integrate into the client's culture and fully understand the company – what drives it, its business objectives and its corporate culture –ultimately building a stronger relationship between the two organisations. By having an HRG point of contact for all travel enquires in-house at Prudential, we can ensure all transactions and services are as effective as possible and that travel policy is best communicated to employees.”
Stephen Newton, Contracts Manager at Prudential says, “We have used HRG travel managers’ expertise and skill to tackle our specific challenges, enabling us to solve day to day problems more quickly and focus more strategically on our travel activity. The arrangement has been very successful, and can be measured by quantified results of activity completed, travel savings and adoption rates of online booking.”
HRG’s outsourced travel managers work with clients on strategic goals related to all aspects of a client’s travel programme, including air, train, car and hotel programmes. In this role, they are responsible for increasing travel policy adoption and compliance and improving the way travel is purchased to generate greater value and incremental savings.
